Introductory post

Hello!

I figured I should post an introduction to this thing as I feel a need to outline what I wish to accomplish through this webzine. My fundamental purpose is to reach out to subcultural girls and interview them about how they express themselves. I do not necessarily intend on writing articles on famous subcultural women, however, if an opportunity arose to focus on a famous subcultural woman I would be more than content to do that. I believe that every girl can contribute something, and that is why I wish to focus on 'normal' subcultural girls (as opposed to those who are already famous). I wish to give them some exposure through feature articles, which will hopefully give them some new fans as well as inspire other girls.

I am looking for other subcultural girls to contribute with articles, interviews, artwork. So if you have something to say, hit me up at everpinkus@hotmail.com

My personal reasons for creating this is because the only representations I ever seem to see of subcultural girls on the internet is of girls posing for semi-pornographic sites (such as Suicide Girls) or that subcultural girls who express their feminist outlooks are cast as man haters / 'dykes' which is not an accurate portrayal at all! I want to state that I have no problems with girls posing for these semi-pornographic sites (I think it is a wonderful thing that subcultural girls can be celebrated for their beauty), but I believe that these girls have so much more to say, and can express their subcultural identities in so many other ways, and I want to explore that through this webzine. I hope that came out clear! I always find it hard to explain!

If you managed to read through all that, well done!

Cheers, Sally.

P.S. I want to thank my inspirers:
Monica- Through Seiraline you made me think of the representation of subcultural girls, and I want to expose what the internet represents them to me as- that subcultural girls are more than simply tattoos and piercings in porn.
Corinna- DIYers like yourself make me want to do this. I want you guys to have a bigger audience. I want you talented girls to succeed.
Ainslie- My main feminist buddy. Knowing that I could discuss all my feminist outlooks with you without being judged has made such a difference to my life. My form of outlet, every discussion I have with you inspires me. Meeting you in first year women's studies was the highlight of my university degree- thankyou!
