Carrie Rose- Artist

Carrie Rose is a 27 year old artist from California. She likes all different types of music, but lately she has been listening to White Zombie, Os Catalepticos, Cenobites, The Cramps and a whole bunch of reggae. Carrie is a subcultural girl, and she says that 'To me, it basically means not following the main stream. Honestly, I was brought up this way. I just got into different music/styles as I grew up.'

The Love Tree II

Carrie started painting at the age of 17. She says on the topic, 'I took an art class in high school and one week we had to do a portrait only using one color, but in light to dark shades. After that I got hooked.' From this point Carrie has continued her love for her artwork and in her own words she has progressed a lot as her skills have improved. One of these skills is that Carrie has learnt how to bring a painting out of an emotion.

Circus Clowns

I asked Carrie what words best described her most recent artwork and she came up with 'dark, cute, innocent, creative'. Carrie also says that the inspiration for her artwork comes 'All from my brain mostly. Usually they come from emotions, things I've experienced. Or something will just come to me and I just sketch it out. Other times it might be an image from a movie, music video, or just being outside in the world. I also get ideas from lyrics.' Carrie's artwork is definitely unique, and this could be assumed to be because of the more experienced relationship between her skills and her emotions.

Land Of The Bunnies

There is no target audience in Carrie's mind when she is creating her artwork, she says this is because everyone has a different opinion. She paints primarily for herself and that she is happy if anyone else likes it. Ultimately, what Carrie wants to achieve from her artwork, in her own words, is 'A career, but really it's hard being an artist. Money isn't always coming in and sometimes you feel like giving up on it completely.' She thinks that this is because 'most people don't like to spend a little extra money on good art. Even if it's $30.00 and up.' Selling her art on ebay means that there can be both good and bad weeks, and there is definitely not a certain money flow.

Love From A Bunny

On a final note, Carrie has some advice for you girls out there who want to improve your art. These are the words she has for you: 'Practice and patience! Get inspired by other artists. I'm not saying to copy, but just look at other people's art, create your own ideas, look at colors.'
